Dutch, or officially termed as ’Nederlands‘, is a West Germanic language spoken by over 28 million people worldwide. Due to its popularity across Europe (5% of European population has native Dutch speakers), it was one of the first official languages of the European Union.
Between 1910 to 1961, along with English, Dutch was a co-official language in South Africa and was later replaced by Afrikaans- a derivative of the Dutch language!
